06/08/2006: "Asmundson Retires after 12 Seasons!"
Superior Stampede offensive lineman Garnet Asmundson retired Sunday following the teams' end of the season banquet at the Green Mill in Duluth. Asmundson began his MFL career with the Dakota Ruffians in 1995 in a career that has seen him become a 10 time MFL all-star, 2-time All-American, and a two-time MFL champion (St. Paul Pigs & Mpls Lumberjacks). Additionally, Asmundson played two seasons in the GPFL and five seasons of professional football in both the PIFL and the IFL. Asmundson thanked commissioner Terry Sullivan by saying, "if it weren't for Terry and this league, I would have never played five years of professional football and would not have made so many great friends." Asmundson is a member of the Mayville State Athletic Hall of Fame, and his next stop will undoubtedly be a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada with an induction into the Minor League Football Hall of Fame.
